Tradition

Every year since we've lived here, come this time of year, we once again find ourselves at the beloved pumpkin patch of the farm not ten minutes from our house. Today was no exception. It was the Girl's 5th time and Little Sister's 3rd perusing the patch for the perfect pumpkin. They are becoming seasoned pros and seeing as how it was Little Sister's first year of being able to walk through the patch she
decided a little kick was in order for every pumpkin in her path. Her way of finding a good one perhaps? It didn't take J long to pick his
perfect pumpkin. We put Little Sister to work and she took her job seriously. Can't you tell?! And as usual there was the traditional
protesting of the annual prerequisite 'family pumpkin patch photo.' This was the first and best shot out of a handful to choose
from. Of course we didn't go by ourselves, we never do, as traditions are most treasured and meaningful when shared with family and friends (that are like family)!
Miss A already had a wheelbarrow full of pumpkins that she'd chosen for herself by the time the Girl put her to work. Seeing as how the Girl refused to even so much as touch the pumpkins for fear of getting her hands dirty (oh the horror!) Miss A had to help with the inspection process of pumpkins the Girl deemed possibly worthy of being picked.
Miss A did all the heavy lifting, while the Girl looked on...
and laughed.
As for me, it sure looked as though I was trying to smuggle my pumpkin.
There were also pony rides to be had. I love how Miss A will always volunteer to ride with Little Sister when the Girl blatantly refuses.
Apparently the Girl could not be bothered with having Little Sister ride with her.
And despite what Little Sister's expression says to the contrary, she fully enjoyed her pony ride with Miss A.
But more than looking at farm animals, more than traipsing through the pumpkin patch, more than the pony ride, Little Sister loved this. Going down the tube slide. She'd reach the bottom only to scamper back to the base of the steps where I was waiting to help her up for another turn.
