Conference

Today was the Girl's first ever conference. J and I sat down with her teacher for 20 minutes and discussed her performance in kindergarten thus far. In the Personal/Social Develpment category she received a 'C,' meaning 'consistently' for having a positive attitude, listening attentively, following rules, solving conflicts appropriately, being cooperative and courteous. She also received all 'C's in the Work Habits/Study Skills category which included completing work in a timely manner, following directions, staying on task, working well independently and producing neat work. We were so proud. Now if only she earned a 'C' for all of those same categories at home. Ha! When tested she was able to identify all uppercase letters of the alphabet and 25 lowercase letters (darn that 'q'!). She knew 9 of 26 letter sounds, could count to 59 and identify 27 of the numerals from 1 to 30. After all of that info was out of the way, her teacher started discussing with us the goals for the year, the Dibbles test, what we can be doing at home to help her learn, etc. At this point in the conversation I just sat back as I could tell that J was going to be doing all the talking. He had a ton of questions! Poor Mrs. C, barraged by a man on a mission to make sure that his 5-year old attains genius status before the start of 1st grade. We love you Knucklehead - keep up the good work!
