Ring around the rosy...

This morning we went to the park. In the summertime it is arguably one of the best parks in our area. It has a huge playground with equipment for children of all ages, wide open expanses of green lawn for running and playing, huge trees to provide shade, a splash pad for those days that are scorching hot (or even just barely warm if you're a kid), and a petting zoo. All of which we took advantage of on this
trip. Baby Sister was most amused by the ducks and geese. Eventhough there were newly shorn sheep to pet and two very sweet little calves who were
napping in the sun. Try as I might, I could not get her near those calves. But she did try to coax these lil pygmy goats to come closer
but they paid no attention to her. As it was, she kept ending up back at the duck pond. Maybe she preferred the security of having the fence
between her and them. Or possibly she's just more of a lover of the feathered variety. After the petting zoo we moved on to the playground
where first choice hands down (for both of my Girls) was the swings. But it didn't take long for Baby Sister to be lured into the splash pad area
which is only separated from the playground by a low wall. Despite the sunshine, it was much too cool (in my opinion) to be playing in the water. Although, it will be fun to see her play in it this year as last summer she wasn't anywhere near walking. So, I had to lure her away with the promise of a cupcake. A homemade red velvet cupcake with the most scrumptious homemade frosting. There was one Dad at
the playdate and he had his work cut out for him giving airplane rides to all the littles. But what else would you expect from a commercial
pilot?! All in a day's work for him! The playdate and cupcakes were in honor of the cutie in the middle as yesterday she celebrated her 2nd birthday! Her and Baby Sister are nursery buds at church and have been since Baby Sister was born.
The big girls were treating her to a birthday dance of ring around the rosy. And by all accounts, she seemed to be enjoying it tremendously. Today as the sun was shining amidst blue skies, I watched these wee ones laughing and playing and I was reminded of just how much we have to be thankful for. We are so blessed to live amongst a wonderful community of friends in a beautiful country where all too
often we take freedom and relative wealth for granted. This summer I plan to be intentionally thankful every single day
for the fact that my Girls can run and play without a care in the world and that I have the privilege of being right there with them.
