It took a few minutes, but eventually the Girl tried on a few masks herself. Then, after the kids had tried on most of the masks within their reach, they spotted the hats across the store.
Having missed her morning nap, Baby Sister was just too tired to protest when we placed this beanie on her head. As long as it didn't interfere with her thumb-sucking she didn't care.
Talk about killer lashes!

We've Got Spirit
Yes We Do!!
Yesterday afternoon, after a morning excursion to a bouncy house (more on that in an upcoming post) and lunch at Red Robin we ended up at the Spirit store. I'm sure you've seen them, they begin popping up all over at the end of August in anticipation of the Halloween season. They sell all kinds of Halloween costumes, including scaled down versions of the same scantily-clad costumes that can be found for adult women, in little girl sizes. Seriously?! What parent in their right mind would dress their 3,4,5,6-year old daughter in a Red Riding costume (Which just happens to be what the Girl would like to be this year...but not because she saw it in the store, she's pretty much had the idea since shortly after last Halloween. Except that she wants a yellow cape. Hmmm, Little Yellow-Riding Hood, just doesn't have the same ring to it.) complete with a low neckline, corseted dress and fishnet stockings. Ah, but I digress, that was not the point of this post.
Anyhow, I was almost certain that we would step two feet inside the doors and that the Girl would begin demanding that we leave immediately since she despises clowns and wouldn't even walk by the Halloween decorations in Home Depot last year. The witches, skeletons and ghouls really freaked her out. So it was with much amazement that we proceeded from the highly adorned breezeway into the actual store filled with creepy zombie babies, scary skeletons, a life-sized corpse crawling across the floor and grotesque masks adorning the walls all to check out the costumes.
The costume section was quickly abandoned by O and A for the display of masks. Masks of which the Girl was quite uncertain until her little friends helped her out by making a game of running up to the masks sticking their fingers into them and pretending to be bitten then running away shrieking. Not sure why that wouldn't scare her even more but it didn't. And so she nervously giggled when O donned this mask.
And the laughter came more freely with this mask and each additional mask that was tried on...even the clown ones. When last year even the cute clown-costumed kids were enough to send her running to me with tears in her eyes.
