Swimsuit Cover-Up or Teenager Outfit?
You be the judge.
This is an outfit that arrived on our doorstep via the good ol' United States postal service yesterday afternoon. It was a much anticipated package to be sure. The outfit was sewn by Gramma (my Mom) from material and a pattern that the Girl picked out all on her own. A few months ago we read Ellen Tebbits, a book by Beverly Cleary. In the book, Ellen and her friend pick out fabric and a pattern for their mothers to sew them matching dresses. Hence an idea was born and the Girl asked me to do the same. One little problem, I don't sew. At least not very well and definitely not without assistance from my Mom. As for sewing something that requires a pattern and something more than just stitching around the edges - completely out of the question. Luckily for the Girl (and me) she has a Gramma who is a seamstress extraordinaire. Anyhow, the Girl and I recently visited Jo-Ann fabric with the mission of picking a dress pattern and the Girl settled on this instead along with a dress pattern and another pattern. But the pattern for this outfit was definitely her favorite and the picture on the front of the pattern showed a girl wearing it over a bikini top as a swimsuit cover-up. I think the Girl liked it solely because the girl's belly button was showing. Anyhow, when she opened the package she wasted no time in shedding the clothes that she was wearing in favor of her new outfit. She was excited to wear it out to Red Robin for dinner with Daddy and Baby Sister (I was headed to Girls' night out) and paired it with her brown fur-lined boots. Quite the combination. Much to her dismay, I insisted that a tank top be worn underneath. She'd much prefer to
wear it this way. And when we're at home she does. She has practically lived in this outfit since receiving it. In fact, I came home late last night to find her and J both asleep on the couch and she had the top on over her pajama top. Originally she was only going to have the top but due to the excess of fabric that the pattern called for, not only did she get the matching shorts but there was even enough fabric left
over for Miss A to get a matching pair of shortsas well. Although the Girl commented that she didn't think Miss A would wear them because they weren't her style. And what exactly would that style be?! Well, let's just say that the Girl calls this her 'teenager outfit.' Great. As for this last picture, I just had to include it because of the classic look on both Girls' faces.
