Finally, the day that the Girl had been anticipating for some time now has arrived! She has been looking forward to kindergarten even before she was out of preschool and the anticipation and excitement have been building all summer long. Although, in the past few weeks I don't know if she's been more excited for the actuality of kindergarten or getting to wear all of the new school clothes that

been hanging untouched (not by choice on her part and tightly enforced by me) in her closet. But even more than the prospect of kindergarten and the appeal of new clothes, the Girl
desperately wanted to ride the bus and has been insisting for months that she should and would. Much to the dismay of her Daddy who met her requests with an unrelenting 'no-way' attitude. But this morning she was so

excited and wanted it so badly that there was no way he could deny her. Besides, as I reasoned, it won't be realistic for me to take and pick her up every

single day...especially once Baby Miss arrives and wouldn't it be better to get it figured out now while it is new for all of her peers and there are plenty of people in place to help them (and us) figure it out rather than waiting until November. When the Girl realized that she was
actually going to get to do it, to ride the bus, she became even more giddy with excitement. So we all waited at the bus stop and waited and waited.

Apparently all the kinks are indeed still being worked out as the bus was late. Once we saw her board, find a seat and the bus rumble off down the street we all piled into the car with Little Sister exclaiming, "I wanna ride da bus. I wanna ride da bus." As I was buckling her into her seat I explained that Big Sister has been waiting a long time to ride the bus and that she would have to wait too. "Ok," she

replied, followed by, "I wanna ride da bus." Then we sped off to the school and managed to beat the bus there. We wanted to see the Girl get off and also what measures had been put in place to make sure that the kindergarteners made it to their classrooms. We were relieved to find that there was a teacher's aide there waiting for the bus and it's littlest passengers. The parents were invited to come into the

classroom and stay for awhile, although I'm sure that we lingered longer than necessary and definitely longer than the Girl wanted us

to as was clearly seen on her face in the above picture. Ha, ha. We got to hear the morning announcements given by the principal

over the intercom and participate with the students in the flag salute. By that point, Little Sister had had enough of being told that she

couldn't get down from her perch in my arms and be involved with everything the big kids were doing and so with her kicking and screaming in protest we "
slipped" out.

In a few short hours we were back to pick the Girl up and spy on the remaining few minutes of class. When the teacher had all the kids lined up at the door, the Girl spied us and waved happily, a look of pure elation illuminating her entire face. Kindergarten day one: a rip-roaring success!!! To celebrate such a huge milestone, we suprised the Girl with lunch out

. Red Robin, not her favorite restaurant (which happens to be Applebees - we have no idea why) but a close second.
